Protecting Yourself From Scam Calls

Scammers often create a sense of urgency to make you act quickly without thinking. Don't fall for it!

Fraudulent phone scams are becoming more common, and financial institutions continue to be a popular target for scammers looking to gain trust quickly. Recently, we’ve seen an increase in fraudulent phone calls from individuals pretending to be Foothill employees or representatives.

These callers may sound professional and convincing. Some may even spoof Foothill’s phone number so it appears legitimate on your caller ID. Their goal is to pressure you into sharing sensitive personal or financial information.

The good news is that knowing what to watch for can help protect you.

How These Scam Calls Work

Scammers often create a sense of urgency to make you act quickly without thinking. They may claim:

  • There is suspicious activity on your account

  • Your debit card has been compromised

  • Your online banking access needs verification

  • Immediate action is required to protect your account

During the call, they may ask for:

  • Online banking usernames or passwords

  • Card CVC and expiration number

  • Personal Identification Number (PIN)

  • One-time verification codes

These requests are major red flags.

Important Reminder

Foothill will never call you and ask for such sensitive information. Don’t feel pressured! Scammers rely on fear and urgency. Take a moment to pause and think before responding to requests over the phone. If a call feels suspicious, end the conversation and contact Foothill directly by calling 626-445-0950.

Even if the caller ID appears to show Foothill, phone numbers can be spoofed. Remember:

  • Never Share Verification Codes - Security codes sent to your phone are meant only for you. A legitimate Foothill employee will never ask you to read those codes back over the phone.

  • Trust Your Instincts - If something feels off, trust your gut. Legitimate calls from Foothill should never pressure you into providing sensitive information immediately.

What To Do If You Think You Shared Information

If you believe you may have provided information to a scammer:

  • Contact Foothill immediately at 626-445-0950

  • Change your online banking password

  • Monitor your accounts closely for unusual activity

  • Report unauthorized transactions as soon as possible

Quick action can help reduce the risk of fraud on your account.
